Hello, I started riding at around 12 years old and I can still remember the excitement and incredible joy I felt and still feel today at the age of 46. My first motorcycle was a tow-goat ( I think that’s how it was spelled) it was a Briggs and Stratton 5 horse motor in a steel tube chassis with maybe 10 inch wheels. This was an amazing experience coming off my big wheel. Then I quickly moved on to a Honda 175 street bike and road it like a mad man all over dirt roads up in eastern Oregon. I remember one day I tried a little hill climbing and when I crested the hill I hit a tree stump and was ejected over the handle bars and smashed my package on the Speedo/tack on the way over. I think I laid there for about an hour, at least it seemed that long. Then my mom bought me a brand new Yamaha Chappy, I have a strong memory of laying on my back in a thick thatch of blackberry bushes with very sharp thorns puncturing my body and the Chappy laying partially on me. I think it took a bit of work to get me out of there. This was the result of missing my landing off a jump. From there after moving out of my parents house around the age of sixteen as an emancipated minor I purchased a Triumph 500 Tiger. Now this was a real motorcycle and some of the fondest memory I have of motorcycling. Then it was on to the Yamaha XS 650, I have never crashed more on any other motorcycle, this bike taught me how to ride. Sometime later in 1985 I purchased the first product 600 class super sport motorcycle the 600 Ninja R, simply amazing. Not sure how many times I totaled that bike but it was quite a few. I think it was 1986 or 1987 when I decided to go racing; I joined OMRRA and started the novice race school. Wow, holy crap the rest is history. Since then I have had countless motorcycles including first product GSXR 750 (2), GSXR 1000R( 3), TL1000R, TL1000S, R1’s (3 or 4), ZX10’s (3) RD 400, Ducati Hypermotard, Ducati 1098 and some I can’t remember like the Buell’s but that may be selective memory loss or possible brain damage caused by unfortunate motorcycle interactions. I have held many OMRRA racing licenses throughout the years and even won a race or two and came is 2nd and 3rd in two different Open GP championships. I have raced in formula USA for two or three seasons. I have never been one of the FAST guys, but not slow either. So here we are years later and I am going racing again. I am preparing a Ducati 1098 as a dedicated Race only no holds barred full on Superbike. This bike is trick; it has borrowed parts from the world superbike that won the world superbike championship in 2008, Ducati’s 1098 FO8. Installed are BST carbon fiber wheels, STM slipper clutch, Ohlin’s SBK front forks, Moto GP derived Ohlin’s TTX36 rear shock connected to Ducati’s Corse link Dan Kyle Style ( thanks Dan Kyle for the hookup ), 30mm off set front clamps, Attack race fairing, 70mm full race Terminoni exhaust, DP Race ECU, Cox racing guards, Ducshop lightened fly wheel, Zadi real time tire and pressure sensors, Sato rear sets, Yoyodyne quick change sprocket set, Yoyodyne fairing stay, Italian super light rear sub frame, 520 gearing, DID 520 superbike chain, Ducati data acquisition, Dunlop Ntec 211’s, Speedy Moto frame sliders, Speedy Moto clutch cover, Speed Cell 1.7 lb Lithium Ferrous cells, Attack pressurized air box performance ram air tubes, Cannon Full HD camera system, and on and on… This bike will have unreal potential well beyond the mortal human capabilities and will leave nothing on the table. It will be up to me to extract as much as I can and the bike will not be responsible for lack-luster performance. Peace out |
